A small, family-run hotel with convenient central city location (just outside Cathedral gate). Quaint and unique historic building. Large comfortable room with quality en suite. Choice of substantial quality breakfasts cooked to order.

No guest parking, but ideal if travelling by train. Noisy drinkers outside (and inside!) on the Saturday night we stayed.

The owner is very welcoming he had given our room to someone else and we took a less expensive room. The room was clean but since the building is 500 years old the plumbing or hot water did not always work. However because the location was fantastic we would go there again

The hotel was hundreds of years old when Charles Dickens stayed there. You are talking about a building that dates from the 16th century. Its quirky, Unfortunately our room was not heated and despite turning the thermostat the heating never came on. Not really good enough; it was late, we were tired and I couldn't be bothered starting with people traipsing into the room to look at the radiator.

Coffee was cold at breakfast and was served with cold milk!! Cafe au lait is the morning breakfast drink and should be served with hot milk.

Superb location in the centre of Canterbury.

Very overpriced for what it is. Smallish, although pleasant enough room, and the general atmosphere a bit claustrophobic. Breakfast arrangements minimal - no buffet as one might expect for the price - no provision for cereal, fruit. No menu provided of what might be available. Instant coffee didn't impress us too much. The cheap white sliced bread was even going mouldy. I note various reviews mention an upgrade of the room at the same price - I rather fancy this is a story-line to impress guests!

The location was fantastic and the staff was more than friendly, moving us to a better room for the same money.

The location is too central, which might mean that the streets underneath are quite busy in the morning, in case you decide to sleep long. :-)

Extreemly clean and comfortable, a wondeful welcome in a fantastic location.

    The hospitality of the owner.

Rather claustrophobic. Windows in bedroom were very narrow and difficult to open. Low ceiling in bathroom and low beams in bedroom made standing upright in places difficult. Hotel does not look inviting. Front windows are dirty as are the venetian blinds at the windows. Front door is closed at all times making hotel look uninviting.

The room was very nice, traditional English furniture and a spectacular spa bath. The central location was convenient, too. The staff contacted us before we arrived to see if we needed help with parking, and we were offered a free upgrade as we were staying for several nights, which we appreciated.

The building is very old so there is no lift and no air conditioning, it could be very hot in summer. And the lack of double glazing means it's very noisy at night, there is a lot of street noise. Breakfast was good if you want traditional cooked English but not so good if you prefer something lighter.
